Reuben is a rockstar stuntman, actor, and performance capture artist. He’s worked on huge film and game projects like Avatar, Ant-Man, Resident Evil, and Devil May Cry. Reuben was also the stunt coordinator for the huge TV show The Office for over 16 episodes! We talk about what that was like and lots of other fun ‘behind the scenes-y’ type stuff in this week’s episode of THE. MEDIAJUICE. PODCAST. Roll it, George! (..do we have a George here? …)

Q*Bert! It’s funny, when you say that word in a crowd of different aged people, you get very different reactions. Someone my age says “YES, I loved that game!” Someone 25 or younger says “Huh?” And someone who’s 15 or below says “Wreck It Ralph!” We had a fascinating conversation on this week’s episode with Warren Davis, the Creator of that lovable character/game. I met Warren at the 2010 CGE aka ‘Classic Gaming Expo, ‘ and we’ve stayed in touch ever since. Warren is a charismatic, smart and successful dude, and I’m glad to call him a friend. From there we dive into Jerry Seinfeld’s new Netflix “docu-comedy” and unveil the latest Mediajuice goodness. So sit back, relax, strap in, step up, jack in, get ready….OK, enough trailer phrases, roll that Podcast!

RTS!! That stands for “Real-Time Strategy” for all those listeners who aren’t gamers. Louis Castle is arguably THE pioneer of the RTS genre with the Command & Conquer series, and I was thrilled to talk with him about his career in this episode. Louis and I met about 5 years ago at CGE (The Classic Gaming Expo) where I shot an on-camera interview with him for my film Video Games: The Movie. Louis is now the head of Amazon Game Studios, which he couldn’t talk much about because they haven’t announced their upcoming lineup, but BOY did we deep dive on game history, tabletop vs. PC, and more. It was a fun episode, and I’m glad to know Louis. He’s changing the game at Amazon. See what I did there!? Changing the “game” at Amazon GAME Studios. OK, roll the episode!

LADIES & GENTLEMEN…MR. DAVID EDDINGS! This is how I feel David should be introduced everywhere he goes. David is a larger than life personality, not to mention an extremely well-connected and savvy businessman. David and I met back in 2001 circa my FUNimation / Dragonball Z days and Davids days at GOD Games. Since then David has shot to epic heights working at Gearbox Software brokering multimillion-dollar licensing deals, evolving the Borderlands franchise AND creating the voice of The Borderlands beloved mascot ‘ClapTrap’. David’s good people and I’m glad to know him. We had a fun chat here talking about the state of modern game development, celebrity’s and videogames, David’s recent move to Rooster Teeth and our shared passion for collecting. So sit back, relax and enjoy the soothing sounds of David and Jeremy’s voices…together in one epic conversation! OK, now take your expectations down about 90% and click the play button.

A man vs. a snake you say?! Yes, in today’s episode I chat with filmmakers Andrew Seklir and Tim Kinzy, directors of the film Man Vs. Snake: The Long And Twisted Tale of Nibbler about documentary filmmaking, editing for HBO and other big networks, and the Kickstarter process. I met Andrew several years ago when they were exploring the crowd-funding process for their film MvS, and we’ve remained friends ever since. Andrew and Tim are ambitious, hard working filmmakers based in LA. And as an independent myself, I not only relate to their journey, I greatly respect what they do. This was a fun conversation where we also dive into some Mediajuice behind the scenes and talk about my favorite new place here in Dallas: the CIDERCADE! That’s right, it’s a CIDER and a CADE. If you’re still capable of reading right now, your mind should officially be blown. End podcast summary in 3…2….1… ::end::

Today’s guest is magical! But seriously folks, he really is a magician. I met Randy Pitchford several years ago while in the thick of shooting Video Games: The Movie, and to quote Rick from Casa Blanca, “It was the beginning of a beautiful friendship.” Aside from helming some of the most popular game franchises on the planet (Borderlands, Brothers in Arms & Duke Nukem to name a few), Randy is one of the smartest people I know, one of the nicest people I know and has helped facilitate some pretty epic moments in my own career as a filmmaker. We chat about all that AND deep dive into where Virtual Reality is really headed. So put on your VR headsets and…oh wait, you don’t need VR for this. So put in your earbuds and listen in. We’ll be listening to you too! (*Wait, what?*)

It’s very appropriate that Matt Collins is my second podcast episode. Matt, in many ways, was my entry into the videogame industry. Matt was in marketing at Atari from the early 00’s to 2006’ish and he and I met while I was at FUNimation Entertainment overseeing the Dragonball Z brand. Atari acquired the rights to produce videogames based on the Dragonball Z license and the rest, as they say, is history.
We launched many “DBZ” games together, and upon leaving FUNimation, Matt hired me and my new production company Mediajuice to produce DBZ sizzle videos, TV Spots, and Trailers for his DBZ games. So, you may see a picture forming here: Matt, Atari, and Dragonball Z are in many ways responsible for where I am today as a filmmaker and business owner. Matt and I have remained close, and I’m ever grateful for his friendship and collaboration over the years. Kamehameha!
Oh, and I also dive into my ongoing toy collection in this episode (yes I’m a fairly avid collector of sixth scale figures from Hot Toys, SideShow, Mondo an the like) as well as some fun projects we’re working on at Mediajuice for The Capcom Pro Tour. Hadouken!

I’ve wanted to start (or restart) my podcast for a long time, and I finally committed to doing it a couple of months ago. We (Mediajuice) had a podcast wayyy back in 2007/8, but it was really just a glorified client showcase, which was fine but it wasn’t something I really enjoyed doing weekly, so it sort of fizzled out after a couple of years. I knew that if I were going to actually do a podcast, I would need a good podcast producer to keep me on track and make sure each episode is produced and posted weekly.
So after about 2 weeks of searching, I found Sir Jeremiah Isley, a great dude who’s got some experience producing audio but more importantly after talking with him a few times I could tell that he was a kindred spirit. He’s a geek at heart, loves tabletop gaming, film and television talk, but most importantly doesn’t mind listening to me yammer on about things I love like filmmaking, gaming, marketing and the like.
My pal Alison Haislip graciously agreed to be on our inaugural episode and we had fun (as I knew we would) talking about how we met, our adventures together and what she’s been up to the past couple of months. Bonus! Alison talks about her Gen Con exclusive collectible “Ali-san.”
We also talk about our newest client at Mediajuice: Amazon Channels! We’ve been producing sizzle videos and trailers for Amazon Channels the past few months, a new service from Amazon where you can aggregate all your favorite cable networks & shows in 1 place. Check out our client showcase on the Our Work page of the site.
